David Phillips, MD, MScSS, FRCSC

Dr. David Phillips is an Adult and Pediatric Neurosurgeon who specializes in taking care of children and adults with a wide variety of intra-cranial and spinal problems. He is an experienced neurosurgeon, with additional expertise in epilepsy surgery, hydrocephalus, and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Phillips works with the members of Long Island Brain and Spine to provide high quality care for a spectrum of neurosurgical and pain management disorders.

Education

Dr. Phillips completed his undergraduate degree in Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Toronto. He obtained his Medical Degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and completed his Residency in Neurosurgery at the University of Manitoba. He completed two Fellowships at the University of California in San Francisco, in Neurotrauma and Neurocritical Care, and in Pediatric Neurosurgery. Prior to entering medicine, he trained astronauts, cosmonauts, and mission controllers how to use the robotic equipment on the International Space Station.
  • He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in Neurosurgery.
  • He has worked in academic medical centers in Canada, California and New York, winning awards for training residents and fellows in neurosurgery.
  • He consults at many of the Catholic Health facilities and sees patients at a number of locations.
  • His patients are cared for by excellent support services such as physical therapists, social workers, occupational therapists, and rehabilitation specialists.
